The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Gerald Francis Custin (AFSN: 0-3130102), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an EB-66C Electronic Warfare Officer over North Vietnam on 8 February 1968. On that date, Captain Custin analyzed and located unfriendly radars which threatened top priority tactical and photo reconnaissance missions flown by Air Force and Navy aircraft. His outstanding determination and performance in the face of constant personal danger from hostile ground and air attack was a significant factor in the success of this vital electronic warfare mission. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Custin reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
