The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Colonel Horace Eugene Wood, Jr. (AFSN: 0-46746), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, and Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Headquarters Military Airlift Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, from 1 August 1978 to 30 November 1982. During this period, the leadership, exemplary foresight and ceaseless efforts undertaken by Colonel Wood resulted in the significant development and growth of Intelligence programs which gave timely and comprehensive threat analyses, advisories and assessments to airlift and rescue missions in the Military Airlift Command’s global role and projection. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Wood culminate a long and distinguished career in the service of his country and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
