The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Louis Demitri Drew (AFSN: 0-3147254), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action in connection with military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force near Duc Lap, Republic of Vietnam, on 24 August 1968. On that date, Captain Drew was flying a night Emergency Re-supply Air Drop delivering critically needed ammunition, medical supplies and water through most intense hostile ground fire. Only through his perseverance, during two passes in a hostile environment which had destroyed five other aircraft was this vital re-supply mission accomplished. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Drew has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
