The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain Karl T. Bame (AFSN: 0-3152244), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force at Dak Seang Special Forces Camp, Republic of Vietnam, from 2 April 1970 to 8 April 1970. During this period, Captain Crist was called upon to execute emergency re-supply airdrops to the besieged Special Forces Camp which was surrounded by heavily fortified hostile gun positions. With the greatest disregard for his own personal safety, Captain Crist repeatedly flew through intense hostile ground and antiaircraft fire to successfully airdrop gravely needed supplies to the defenders of the Camp. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Bame has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
