The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major James Carter Gibler (AFSN: 0-3058994), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Forward Air Controller near Tam Ky, Republic of Vietnam, on 13 April 1968. On that date, Major Gibler was exposed to intense ground fire while in support of a friendly ground unit. He made several passes at the aggressor force drawing their fire from the besieged friendly unit. The superior skill and effective use of airpower directed by Major Gibler further relieved the pressure from the unit by bringing devastating destruction to the aggressor force. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Gibler reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
