The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Thomas H. Seale (ASN: 20416112), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 31st Infantry Division in action near Kibawe, Mindanao, Philippine Islands, on 6 May 1945. When the infantry company to which he was assigned as squad leader encountered stiff enemy resistance and sustained several men killed or wounded, attempting to advance past the position, voluntarily and with complete disregard for his own safety, traversed the open terrain under intense enemy machine gun and sniper fire to go to the aid of a wounded comrade. Although wounded himself, he continued to administer vital aid until he became too weak and exhausted from loss of blood. By his bravery, devotion to duty and sincere concern for the welfare of his fellow soldiers he was a real inspiration to all the men. This act reflects great credit upon Staff Sergeant Seale and upholds the highest traditions of the Service.
