(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain (Infantry) Raymond G. Ripley (ASN: 0-313338), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 38th Infantry Division during World War II. Captain Ripley, in the midst of heavy fire, went through the sniper fire and located the actual positions of pillboxes sheltering enemy machine guns. He was killed by a sniper while directing the fire and movements of his company. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
