The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant [then Corporal] Toshiyuki Narimatsu (ASN: 30103947), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 2d Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, 92d Infantry Division, in action on 20 October 1944 in France. When his ration carrying party was ambushed by the enemy, Staff Sergeant Narimatsu, after deploying his men, assisted a wounded comrade to safety under hostile fire. Subsequently, when his company commander was fatally wounded, Staff Sergeant Narimatsu, again under fire, went to the aid of the officer. Under Staff Sergeant Narimatsu’s gallant leadership, the ration party successfully prevented a superior enemy force from advancing and enabled friendly reinforcements to reach the scene, attack and rout the enemy. Staff Sergeant Narimatsu’s courage, initiative and gallantry under fire reflect credit on the best traditions of the United States Army.
