Headquarters, 92d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 58 (July 24, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Ted Tetsuji Kusumoto (ASN: 20928693), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 100th Infantry Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, 92d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 5 April 1945, in Italy. Crawling forward in the face of heavy enemy machine gun, grenade and rifle fire, Private First Class Kusumoto advanced to within fifteen yards of an enemy position when he was shaken by a grenade landing nearby. When his mind had cleared, he threw a hand grenade into the enemy position and forced the occupants to flee. Attacking another machine gun position, he crept up within throwing distance and threw two hand grenades which destroyed the machine gun and wounded the gunner. The courage and perseverance displayed by Private First Class Kusumoto reflects great credit on the high traditions of the United States Army.
