The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant George W. Jetmore (ASN: 35169824), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 175th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany. On 23 February 1945, during the offensive west of the Roer River, Technical Sergeant Jetmore assumed command of a rifle platoon when the leader became a casualty and led it in a courageous and skillful manner. When two squads were pinned down by automatic fire, Technical Sergeant Jetmore led the third squad in a daring flanking attack and secured the objective without suffering a casualty. On 28 February 1945, he traversed four hundred yards of hostile terrain to lead a tank destroyer forward to engage an enemy tank which had threatened his position. During the ensuing action Technical Sergeant Jetmore was wounded. His actions reflect great credit upon himself and the Military Service.
