The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Wade C. Greer, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 38th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in near Dinalupihan, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 11 February 1945. While in the position of litter platoon, Staff Sergeant Greer led his men forward to evacuate a wounded rifleman. Under heavy machine gun fire, and with utter disregard for his personal safety, he reached the wounded man and pulled him out of danger. By so doing, Staff Sergeant Greer was hit in the chest. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Staff Sergeant Greer, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
