    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major (Cavalry) Michael Joseph Lenihan Greene (ASN: 0-23887), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Executive Officer, 41st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, 11th Armored Division, in action against the enemy at Bastogne, Belgium, in December 1944. With complete disregard for personal safety, Major Greene carried out a reconnaissance during which his tank was knocked out by an enemy mine. He mounted another tank to carry out his daring mission behind enemy lines. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Major Greene, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
