The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Armor) Kenneth E. Weaver, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 46th Tank Battalion, , 13th Armored Division, in action against the enemy in action on 2 – 3 May 1945, in the vicinity of Branau, Germany. Having successfully led his troops in a dangerous crossing of the Inn River, Captain Weaver undertook a daring mission to locate an Allied prisoner of war camp deep within enemy-held territory. Braving enemy action and the constant threat of ambush, Captain Weaver accompanied by only one man, reached the camp and learned that 15,000 Allied prisoners were in dire need of immediate assistance. Though heavily-armed patrols were encountered en route, all opposition was skillfully evaded and the vital information given to his headquarters. Through his courage and fearless determination, the entire camp was later liberated and aid secured for his comrades-in-arms. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Weaver, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
