Headquarters, 70th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 34 (April 30, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Marshall L. Sapp (ASN: 36979590), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 274th Infantry Regiment, 70th Infantry Division, on 20 February 1945. When Private First Class Sapp’s squad was held up by grazingfire from an enemy pillbox during an assault near Spicheren Heights, France, he left cover and charged the emplacement with his rocket launcher. Reaching the pillbox he fired a rocket through a door, killing or wounding all the personnel inside. His courageous action eliminated the hostile strongpoint and enabled his squad to advance.
