    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Joseph E. Roza (ASN: 36473472), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 302d Infantry Regiment, 94th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany, on 14 March 1945. While attacking strongly defended enemy positions, Private First Class Roza encountered three enemy riflemen. Rushing the position, he killed two and captured the other. Despite heavy enemy fire he maneuvered forward to an enemy bunker and in the ensuing action forced the surrender of twenty Germans who were manning the position. Privat Roza’s heroic, aggressive actions and indomitable fighting spirit are in keeping with the highest traditions of the Army of the United States.

His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
