(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) John M. Karlak (ASN: 0-1289094), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 94th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany on 26 February 1945. Assuming command when his company commander was wounded, Lieutenant Karlak gathered the remnants of two platoons and reorganized the group. Then boldly leading his men in a fierce charge on an enemy occupied pillbox, he captured the position and successfully routed the enemy. [remainder of citation missing]
