The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Fourth Grade John C. Kahle (ASN: 33694839), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the Medical Detachment, Special Troops, 94th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany on 20 February 1945. Performing duties as Medical Aid Man, during an assault upon a German town, Technician Kahle made repeated trips through an enemy-mined area, covered by hostile artillery fire, to aid and evacuate the wounded. As he was performing his noble work of rendering first aid and evacuating the wounded, he was mortally wounded. Technician Kahle’s unselfish concern for the welfare of his comrades, tireless efforts and dauntless courage under hostile fire were instrumental in saving the lives of many and exemplify the highest traditions of the military service.
