The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Michael Vuletich (ASN: 36320520), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 5 January 1945, near ****, Belgium. Sergeant Vuletich, Communications Sergeant, in the absence of an officer, took command of fifteen men on his company’s flank and led them in a bayonet charge resulting in the capture of 95 enlisted men and one officer. The enemy had been in well dug-in positions, but Sergeant Vuletich’s aggressive action forced them to surrender. The gallant actions of Sergeant Vuletich were above and beyond the call of duty and exemplified the high traditions of the Airborne Forces of the United States Army.
