The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant [then Sergeant] Frank C. Taylor (ASN: 16075582), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 13 June 1944, near ****, France. First Sergeant Taylor, single-handed, destroyed an enemy tank which was holding up the advance of his company. About one mile from the town of ***, the company encountered six tanks. They were able to neutralize five of the tanks, but the sixth continued firing. First Sergeant Taylor worked his way six hundred yards to his company’s front, to the tank position and hurled a grenade into the motor vents setting it afire. He then jumped on the tank to hurl a grenade inside; however, at this moment the tank exploded, hurling him across the road. This gallant and courageous deed by First Sergeant Taylor enabled his company to accomplish its mission with a minimum of casualties. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
