Headquarters, 82d Airborne Division, General Orders No. 34 (March 17, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Robert M. Tague (ASN: 33068792), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 22 December 1944, near *****, Belgium. Sergeant Tague, Demolition Squad Leader, volunteered for the mission of blowing an important bridge spanning the **** River during a strong counterattack. Under intense small arms fire and constant enemy observation, Sergeant Tague, with complete disregard for his personal safety, crawled over artificial and natural barriers to complete his mission. Destruction of this important and strategic bridge deprived the enemy of the opportunity of infiltrating men and armor through our lines and was a vital part of the town’s successful defense. Sergeant Tague’s gallant conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Airborne Forces.
