Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 616 (January 19, 1969)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Jerry Allen Kiser (ASN: US-54668730), United States Army, for gallantry in action. Private First Class Kiser distinguished himself by heroic actions on 1 December 1968, while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action in the Republic of Vietnam. While on a reconnaissance in force mission, Company A came under an intense communist attack. With complete disregard for his own safety, Private Kiser exposed himself to the withering Viet Cong fire as he attempted to flank an enemy bunker. Halted by the heavy volume of automatic weapons fire, Private Kiser began placing effective fire on the aggressors. Resuming his assault, Private Kiser was mortally wounded as he dauntlessly advanced on the enemy. His valorous actins were responsible for the successful defeat of the communist force. Private Kiser’s personal bravery, aggressiveness, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, the 25th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
