The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Captain Claude Charles Bloch, United States Navy, for distinguished service in the line of his profession as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. PLATTSBURG, engaged in the important, exacting and hazardous duty of transporting and escorting troops and supplies to European ports through waters infested with enemy submarines and mines during World War I.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Admiral (Retired) Claude Charles Bloch, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chairman, Navy Board for Production Awards, during the period from December 1942 to 15 October 1945. Through his vigorous administration and discriminating sifting of recommendations for production awards, he displayed to an exceptional degree the highest qualities of leadership and judgment, thereby stimulating production to the end of accelerating the construction, equipping and supplying the United States Fleet. By his tireless devotion, sound judgment and professional ability, Admiral Bloch has performed services of inestimable benefit to the Navy and to the Government of the United States and thereby contributed greatly to the successful prosecution of the war.
