The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Burt W. Roebuck (ASN: 31283306), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 24 December 1944, near ****, Belgium. Staff Sergeant Roebuck, a member of an advance command post party, came upon a platoon of engineers opposing a group of enemy which was attempting to stop the installation of a mined roadblock. Completely exposed, Staff Sergeant Roebuck manned his .50 caliber machine gun and brought withering fire on the enemy, inflicting heavy damages. Later it was learned that Staff Sergeant Roebuck had turned the advance point of a column of 400 enemy soldiers who were attempting to slip out of a Division pocket. By his gallant action, Staff Sergeant Roebuck saved the engineer platoon from probable annihilation and the CP party and equipment from a similar fate. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Airborne Forces.
