The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Raymond R. Reichen (ASN: 17043902), United States Army, for gallantry in action on 19 September 1944, at ****, Holland. Private Reichen, Company B, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, was in bitter street fighting in the town of ****. During an assault through the village he encountered approximately twelve enemy troops who were firing on his comrades from buildings. With absolute disregard for his own personal safety, Private Reichen stood in the middle of the street facing the enemy positions and exposed himself to all of the fire of their weapons. As each member of the enemy force exposed himself, Private Reichen took careful and deliberate aim and inflicted enough injuries to cause the enemy to withdraw. This action permitted friendly troops to advance and clear the village of enemy with minimum losses. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
