The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Private First Class Joseph F. Gianetto (ASN: 42147050), United States Army, for heroic achievement in Germany on 23 February 1945, in connection with military operations against the enemy. Performing duties as an artillery forward observer section with an assault company, Private First Class Gianetto courageously took his place with the infantry troops to clear some woods of sniper fire. Later they assumed the regular responsibility for fire missions and also furnished support for another company. By using two radios and voice relay from a dangerously exposed position, they were able to maintain the vital communications and insure the success of the operations. Their outstanding courage and devotion to duty reflect highest credit.
