The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Edmund Q. Moorehead (ASN: 14079988), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 17 September 1943, about one mile from Altavilla, Italy. Sergeant Moorehead, in charge of a mortar squad, removed his jump coat and exposed himself on top of a hill to draw enemy fire and pick out their gun positions. His courageous action and his excellent direction of the close up fire of his squad aided materially in the repulse of all enemy counter attacks. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
