The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Dominic Moecia (ASN: 35335651), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company H, 3d Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action against the enemy on 11 April 1945, at Merkenich, Germany. When five men were wounded by a mine, in the center of an enemy minefield that was exposed to small arms fire and mortars, Staff Sergeant Moecia, with utter disregard for his own personal safety, remained exposed in the minefield and rendered first aid to the wounded men. While moving about from man to man, several other mines were tripped but Staff Sergeant Moecia remained calm and worked with all speed possible. Due to his untiring efforts and unselfish devotion to his comrades, he succeeded in carrying all to safety where further help could be given. The gallant actions of Staff Sergeant Moecia were instrumental in saving the men’s lives and reflect great credit upon Staff Sergeant Moecia and the United States Airborne Forces.
