The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Frank A. Misiorowski (ASN: 36397013), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 3 October 1944, near ****, Holland. While his company was under savage attack by enemy infantry, reinforced by two tanks and heavy artillery and mortar fire, Private Misiorowski, Assistant Squad Leader, on his own initiative organized and led a group of eight men in a counter-attack which successfully re-established them in their former position. Private Misiorowski screened his advancing men with a barrage of hand grenades from a heavy supply he was carrying and exhibited utter disregard of injury by his own grenade or enemy fire. He then armed himself with a bazooka and drove off an enemy tank. His position was the first to be re-established. Private Misiorowski displayed exceptional initiative and aggressive leadership in organizing and leading this assault, and contributed materially to the successful accomplishment of his company’s mission. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
