    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Julius F. Maneth, Jr. (ASN: 38070965), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 7 April 1945, at ****, Germany. Sergeant Maneth, a Demolition Patrol Leader, in the absence of any officers, took it upon himself to organize the defense of one end of a factory which was being attacked by an overwhelming number of determined enemy supported by one tank. At one time in this fierce engagement he ran out into the open yard to destroy a group of six enemy with his sub-machine gun. After the attack had been repelled, Sergeant Maneth reorganized his men and withdrew them safely to the bank of the river. Throughout this entire engagement his conduct reflected credit upon himself and the Airborne Forces of the United States Army.
