The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Donald E. Lord (ASN: 11023662), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 6 April 1945, in ****, Germany. Private First Class Lord, BAR Gunner, advanced against an enemy strongpoint which was delaying the advance of his platoon. He killed two and captured eight of the enemy. He then voluntarily assisted the first squad which was being violently counterattacked, and was in a large measure responsible for repulsing the attackers and capturing thirty-four enemy. Private First Class Lord’s aggressiveness inspired others of his platoon and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Airborne Army.
