The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Robert Lemery (ASN: 20150612), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 2 February 1945, near ****, Germany. Taking command of his platoon when the platoon leader became a casualty, Technical Sergeant Lemery bravely led his men across open terrain under intense fire so skillfully that few casualties were sustained. Exposing himself to intense automatic weapons fire, Technical Sergeant Lemery set such an inspiring example for his men that five pillboxes were reduced and twenty-seven prisoners taken. The courageous gallantry and aggressive initiative displayed by Technical Sergeant Lemery in this action were dominant features in the success of the mission and in keeping with the highest traditions of the Airborne Forces.
