The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Airman Second Class Ira Bailey, Jr. (AFSN: AF-15620070), United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Crestview, Florida, on 18 December 1965. On that date, Airman Bailey rushed to a neighbor’s residence where an explosion and fire had occurred. With complete disregard for his own safety, Airman Bailey entered the burning house and succeeded in removing three children who had been severely burned and succeeded in confining the fire to the living room area, subsequently extinguishing the flames with a garden hose. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, Airman Bailey has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
