The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Airman First Class Martin Veto Fratangelo, Sr. (AFSN: AF-51339621), United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Crestview, Florida, on 18 December 1965. On that date, Airman Fratangelo rushed to a neighbor’s residence where an explosion and fire had occurred. Airman Fratangelo discovered three of a family of four children in a very seriously burned condition on the front porch of the house. Perceiving that no immediate first aid could be rendered, and with complete disregard for his own safety, Airman Fratangelo entered the smoke filled house in search of the fourth child and began a systematic search of the house. On finding the fourth child absent from the house, Airman Fratangelo returned to the living room area and assisted a fellow airman in subduing the flames with a garden hose. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellow man, Airman Fratangelo has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
