The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Calvin E. Reeves (ASN: 6290497), United States Army, for heroism while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on ** ****, 1943, near the city of *****. The life of a civilian worker, engaged in moving barrels of gasoline, was endangered when his clothing caught fire from the flames of a gasoline drum which had ignited. Sergeant Reeves, without regard for personal safety, rushed to the assistance of the civilian, threw him on the ground and held him there until an Army blanket was brought. Sergeant Reeves then wrapped the blanket around the worker and smothered the fire. In doing so, Sergeant Reeves was burned about the head and both arms. His heroic action saved the life of the worker.
