The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal to Private First Class Norman C. Collins (ASN: 32954566), United States Army, for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States in the vicinity of Sellerichy, Germany, 17 September 1944. In the course of an attack against a strong enemy hill position, the company with which Private Collins served as a rifleman became virtually isolated by enemy fire from three sides. Despite the critical situation, Private Collins fought courageously and aggressively, delivering continuous and effective fire against the enemy. His fine example encouraged his comrades to fight in a similar manner and substantially helped to maintain their fighting spirit and effectiveness. Private Collins’ exemplary actions were a material factor in reducing enemy resistance and reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
