The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Howard M. Kriebel (ASN: 39237166), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action against the enemy near St. Martin De Verrville, France, on 6 June 1944. When his platoon was pinned down by enemy machine gun fire, Staff Sergeant Kriebel crawled forward and alone silenced two enemy machine gun nests. This action completed, he then continued on and set fire to and destroyed a German ammunition dump. His gallant action silenced the enemy position and inspired his comrades, enabling them to complete their mission. His action was in accordance with the highest standards of Military Service.
