The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Reynold P. Koze (ASN: 15100942), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company C, 1st Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 2 October 1944, near ****, Holland. Staff Sergeant Koze and his squad were cut off from the remainder of his platoon by heavy enemy automatic weapons fire. As the early morning haze lifted, Staff Sergeant Koze with complete disregard for his own life, reconnoitered a route for his squad to rejoin its platoon. Upon reaching his platoon he found that the leader had become a casualty and the platoon badly disorganized. He reorganize the platoon under direct enemy fire and led them forward in a courageous attack which took them to their objective. The entire action took place in a field devoid of natural cover. His fortitude and leadership saved his squad and platoon. Staff Sergeant Koze was an example and an inspiration to the men he led and reflects great credit on the individual and the United States Army.
