The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Marion E. Kinman (ASN: 18035092), United States Army, for gallantry in action on 17 September 1944, near ****, Germany. Corporal Kinman was a Squad Leader, Company A, 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division. When his squad was dropped beyond the drop zone and was immediately attacked by the enemy in that vicinity, Corporal Kinman quickly assembled his men and organized a defensive position which delayed the enemy and permitted the salvage of equipment from bundles which were afire from flak. In a subsequent fire fight against a numerically superior enemy he led his squad in the destruction of a German strongpoint. Corporal Kinman approached to a position from which he could assault this position with a high explosive grenade. He killed two Germans and captured others. During the fighting while his squad attempted to make contact with the company, then on the drop zone, Corporal Kinman led his squad in killing twenty-one enemy and capturing fifty-nine. This was accomplished without a single casualty within the squad. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
