Headquarters, 82d Airborne Division, General Orders No. 58 (April 15, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Edward A. Kieffer (ASN: 36628784), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 2 February 1945, near ****, Germany. Acting as squad leader during an attack o the Siegfried Line, Private First Class Kieffer led his men steadily forward in the face of heavy enemy automatic weapons fire from concrete pillboxes. Exposing himself with calculated recklessness when it was necessary to keep the attack moving, Private First Class Kieffer was an inspiration to his men at all times. He was killed during the final assault just short of the German positions, but the aggressive courage displayed by Private First Class Kieffer was in keeping with the highest traditions of the Airborne Forces.
