The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Sidney A. Jahay (ASN: 38064961), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Company, 3d Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 9 July 1943, southeast of ****. Private Jahay, with eight other privates and one officer, crept to within close range of an enemy column which had halted for rest. Discovered by the enemy, the officer used a rocket launcher to destroy and armored car in which all occupants were killed. Private Jahay and his comrades effectively covered the withdrawal of the rocket launcher team with rifle fire and created such confusion among the enemy that it refused to exploit its numerical superiority. In this action Private Jahay has been reported missing in action. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
