The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class James L. Hollingsworth (ASN: 14166842), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 80th Airborne Anti-Aircraft Battalion, 82d Airborne Division, in action against the enemy on 4 February 1945, near Ubenbreth, Germany. Private First Class Hollsingsworth located the positions of enemy mortars when the town was under heavy fire from German 120-mm. mortars and tiger royal tanks, went to his exposed gun under direct enemy observation, and with complete disregard of the fire directed on his position, single-handedly manned the piece, fired eleven rounds of ammunition, and wiped out the enemy mortar. His courageous conduct and skilled performance of duty under extremely hazardous conditions eliminated a direct threat to his forces and reflect the highest traditions of the Airborne Forces of the United States Army.
