The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Henry L. Henderson (ASN: 39538550), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 401st Glider Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 9 June 1944 in ****, France. During the town fighting, the advance platoon was met by direct machine gun fire from a house and four men fell. Without a moment’s hesitation, Private First Class Henderson dashed through the fire and secured a BAR and charged the machine gun which then concentrated its fire on him. He was wounded in the head, but despite this he continued the assault and wiped out the machine gun crew while the platoon moved into position. This voluntary act of heroism by Private First Class Henderson was in the brave traditions of the Airborne Forces of the United States Army.
