The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Max B. Domina (ASN: 0-1308116), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 15 May 1944. Lieutenant Domina was in charge of hand grenade instruction on the Hand Grenade Range at *****, England. The class was in position about fifteen yards from the Quarry into which it was throwing live grenades. One student became confused and threw his grenade along the firing line into the center of the class. Without a moment’s hesitation or thought for his own safety, Lieutenant Domina acted instantly, chased the live grenade about ten yards, picked it up and threw it into the quarry where it exploded. This prompt and proper action prevented possible injury to any member of the class.
