The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Cadet Second Class Terrell James Powell, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Greeley, Colorado, on 6 May 1972. On that date, Cadet Powell rushed to the scene of an attack on a young girl. With complete disregard for his own safety, and despite the hazards involved with confronting an aggressive assailant, Cadet Powell physically confronted and subdued the assailant, thus saving the girl from further injury or death. By his courageous action and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Cadet Powell has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
