Headquarters, 82d Airborne Division, General Orders No. 64 (December 13, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Carrick T. Harris (ASN: 0-462455), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 8 June 1944, two miles from ****, France. Second Lieutenant Harris, although wounded, refused to be evacuated and organized the defense of a bridge of great military importance against enemy forces armed with greater fire power and supported by tanks. Under his direction, the bridge was held against ceaseless counterattacks. The group under his command gained full control of a defensive position. Throughout this action, Second Lieutenant Harris carried himself and commanded the men in such a manner that he was a constant source of inspiration to those men who fought with him. His actions reflect great credit on himself and the Airborne Forces of the United States Army.
