The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Oscar Wayne Green (ASN: 39910028), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 188th Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division, in action on 27 December 1944 in the South Pacific. During an attack against the enemy, the lead scout of Staff Sergeant Green’s squad was wounded by sniper fire. With utter disregard for his personal safety, this brave soldier moved forward to the aid of his wounded comrade. He administered first aid and evacuated the wounded soldier to safety. Staff Sergeant Green was killed in a later action. The great courage and loyalty displayed by Staff Sergeant Green are worthy of the highest praise. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
