The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant Colonel (General Staff Corps) George Frederick Graf (ASN: 0-397822), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters, 23d Infantry Division (Americal), in action at Cebu, Philippine Islands, from 26 Mar 1945 to 17 Apr 1945. Lieutenant Colonel Graf, as Assistant Chief of Staff 0-4, was constantly assisting front line elements with their problems. On 15 April 1945, despite heavy small arms fire, he exposed himself without regard to his own personal safety to assure delivery of supplies to engaged troops. His work was in the highest traditions of the service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
