Headquarters, 82d Airborne Division, General Orders No. 34 (March 17, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Lloyd H. Goose (ASN: 12166940), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 7 January 1945, near ****, Belgium. Technical Sergeant Goose, Platoon Sergeant, immediately assumed command of his platoon when its leader became separated from the unit during an advance. While crossing a piece of open terrain 200 yards across, the platoon was pinned down by heavy enemy rifle and automatic weapons fire from the woods to their front. Technical Sergeant Goose worked his way forward in spite of the intense fire and knocked out an enemy machine gun in the woods, killing three Germans. Inspired by Technical Sergeant Goose’s example, the platoon advanced into the woods, killing several enemy, taking fifteen prisoners and driving between fifty and one hundred Germans from the objective. Technical Sergeant Goose’s courageous action and example were responsible for his platoon’s accomplishment of their mission. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
