The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Donald M. Fulton (ASN: 11098847), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on or about 10 July 1943, eight miles southeast of ****. Private Fulton was acting as a point for a patrol which included the Combat Team Commanding Officer and his staff, operating many miles behind enemy lines. Private Fulton was ambushed and fired upon by superior forces, but immediately engaged them at point blank range, killing and wounding several. With utter disregard for his own safety, Private Fulton voluntarily exposed himself to draw enemy fire and thus warn the patrol of the enemy’s location and disposition. In this gallant action, Private Fulton lost his life, and acquitted himself to reflect credit on himself and his country.
