The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Corps of Engineers) Saul Fraint, United States Army, for gallantry in action on **** 1943, in Italy. Lieutenant Fraint, 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion, 82d Airborne Division, with utter disregard for his own personal safety, entered a hotel reported as mined by retreating enemy forces, and removed approximately 1,500 pounds of explosives, booby trapped with pull type firing devices. His action saved the building from injury and allowed its use by our own forces. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
